Hi Paul,

I caught your presentation as a replay, excellent demos and explanations. Just a comment on the sound from the demo sections - it really didn't come through very well from the speakers to the mic.

I have a couple of questions on the "ping" aspect. The WM 5 devices on the market tend to come with WiFi built in. However the WiFi tends to work on an aggressive power saving strategy which, by default, cuts off the transmit/receive if the screen has gone dark (admittedly this is customisable).

In a corporate environment I can imagine that the company will wish to connect their devices to WiFi while in the office. However they don't want the Wifi on the devices on all the time due to battery life concerns.

A WM 5 device in power saving will not wake up the Wifi to transmit data - similarly it cannot recieive data over wifi too in this state. However, a WM 5 device will open a GPRS channel if the wifi is off, and it will convey the data that way.

How do you envisage the "push" aspect operating in circumstances like this? (i.e. scenarios where WiFi is in power saving mode) How long is it before the connection is assumed lost if a ping doesn't come back? If the device replies to the Exchange server over GPRS rather than WiFi (i.e. different IP address), I take it this has no consequence on the sync status?

Thanks a lot,

Neil

Great webcast. There is a lot of good stuff in it. I will recommend it to a number of folks interested in ActiveSync.

Perhaps you can clear up some confusion regarding the Security and Feature Pack. As you announced, it has been RTM'ed to the device manufacturers. Is there also a corresponding Pack to be applied to the Exchange Server? If so, any ideas on release dates? If not, where are the tools such as Remote Wipe found?

Cheers!

Grat webcast. I learned a great deal and will recommend it to other folk I know interested in this technology.

You mentioned that the Security and Feature Pack had been RTM'ed to the device makers. Any word on the Web Administration Tool?

This is a series of YouTube clips where filmmaker David Lynch solves everyday problems-- shortchanged cash register, marital spats, etc. Of course, it\'s not really David Lynch. But the clips are sort of bizarre like David Lynch, so it works on that level
